چکیده

It is shown that if a spread of a finite split Cayley hexagon is translation with respect to two disjoint flags then it is either a hermitian spread or a Ree–Tits spread. Analogously, if an ovoid of a classical generalized quadrangle Qð4; qÞ is translation with respect to two disjoint flags then it is either an elliptic quadric or a Suzuki–Tits ovoid. In the course of obtaining these results, we introduce the notion of local polarity for ovoid-spread pairings and show that if an ovoid-spread pairing is locally polar at each of its elements then it arises from a polarity.

Spreads and ovoids of finite generalized quadrangles

We survey recent results on spreads and ovoids of finite generalized quadrangles. Included in the survey are results on ovoids of PG(3, q); translation ovoids of Q(4, q); characterisations of generalized quadrangles using subquadrangles and ovoids of subquadrangles; and spreads of T2(Ω).

Shult Sets and Translation Ovoids of the Hermitian Surface

Starting with carefully chosen sets of points in the Desarguesian affine plane AG(2, q2) and using an idea first formulated by E. Shult, several infinite families of translation ovoids of the Hermitian surface are constructed. Various connections with locally Hermitian 1–spreads of Q−(5, q) and semifield spreads of PG(3, q) are also discussed. Finally, geometric characterization results are dev...

Spreads in H(q) and 1-systems of Q(6, q )

In this paper we prove that the projections along reguli of a translation spread of the classical generalized hexagon H(q) are translation ovoids of Q(4, q). As translation ovoids of Q(4, 2r ) are elliptic quadrics, this forces that all translation spreads of H(2r ) are semi-classical. By representing H(q) as a coset geometry, we obtain a characterization of a translation spread in terms of a s...

On translation spreads of

Some results on Spreads and Ovoids

We survey some results on ovoids and spreads of finite polar spaces, focusing on the ovoids of H(3, q) arising from spreads of PG(3, q) via indicator sets and Shult embedding, and on some related constructions. We conclude with a remark on symplectic spreads of PG(2n− 1, q).
